Our comfort zone is in the $5 - $20 million range per round. In contrast to many players in the field, Cohen & Simons does not use a "shotgun" approach in finding interested investors and buyers. We believe that the shares in your company should not be sold like a second-hand car, in thousands of emails only to end-up as spam with your Company as a burnt name in the market.
Instead we spend many hours doing calls in order to understand the current investor trend and sentiment first. This often results in the careful repositioning of our client so as to maximize their appeal to what investors are looking for at that moment.
At first this may sound bizarre, but it's not uncommon for our client to end up occupying two distinct market positions, one optimized for client acquisition and the other to maximise investor appeal. "Now why did we think of that before?" we hear our clients say. Which is why our clients come to Cohen & Simons in the first place: our hands-on experience.
Only then will Cohen & Simons assemble a small team that in the following weeks will make hundreds of calls to find out: who is in the market, who has invested in a similar venture, who has already placed their chips, who has a mandate window that corresponds to our clients financing strategy, who could be potential lead investors, who still has unallocated funds, who and who and who... until we end up with a short-list, of between 15 to 30 qualified potential investors.
The final stage is where we individually tailor the investor pitch, practice, practice practice and finally organise the investor visits or a road show. Saves everyone time, effort and money and guarantees that you don't burn the market for your next financing round. We call this our "sniper" approach.
