Selling a company takes always longer than expected. And the price paid is inferior to what was expected and hoped for. There are two reasons for this. The first is the increased amount of companies for sale; 'baby boomers' now retire selling their companies. This is the simple market mechanism of demand and supply. The second reason is that the owner who wants to exit very often is the patriarch of the company, the central person that decides and coordinates. Without him or her, the company's sustainability comes under pressure, so does its value.
