Challenge
A multi-national industrial metal and glass recycling business was incurring heavy losses within their transport and trucking department in one of their Eastern European operating plants Deliveries were unreliable, vehicles were breaking down, new tires and spare part costs were rocketing and drivers threatened union action. Engagement The Cohen & Simons way was to take off our suits, roll-up our sleeves and go for a ride. We quickly discovered that the new parts and tires were being traded by the drivers against old parts for cash. Within a month a deal was brokered whereby the trucks were leased back to the drivers, to operate as independent businesses. This was combined with a performance based transport tariff and penalty structure. Sustainable Value Within 3 months the drivers learned how to deliver customer satisfaction and personal financial gain. For the multi-national it meant one head-ache less, reduced costs and lower head count. The model was then adopted by other plants of the Company. |
